Looking Back at Sebastian’s Birth Story
This April 11th will be the seventh year I have taken flowers to Sebastian’s grave on his birthday.
He’s turning thirty in heaven. Many people who have lost a child to suicide will write the words FE “forever” and the age of their child when they died. Sebastian is FE23.
But Sebastian is always getting older, even if he’s not on this earth. I envision him aging when I run into his friends who are now married and having their second and third children. Some of them are starting to develop tinges of gray in their beards, and their hairlines are receding. I can picture Sebastian as older and wiser, still very much Sebastian, but he’s no longer in pain and suffering. He’s healthy and whole with Jesus.
As the years pass, the pain of losing Sebastian is not so devastating. God has been faithful in walking with me in my suffering and grief.
